Q4 EVALUATION : What Have You Learned From Your Audience Feeback?

The Audience Reaction To My Music Video, And How It Linked With My Ancillary Product:

The Pros:
  • The Performance of the artist was praised universally
  • The Lip-sync was extremely well done, many couldn't tell it it was lip-synced
  • The costume suited the artists genre and also the song
  • Mise En Scene worked well as everything there for a reason
  • Video was cut to the beat of the song
  • The Music Video linked with my Ancillary Products because the Mise En Scene used in both were the same
  • The Doppelgänger effect worked really well, bit in the Music Video and Ancillary Products
The Cons:
  • Diversity needed in terms of location
  • Some people wanted to see more close ups of the artist
  • Some wanted more variation in shot types for example, long shots
What I Have Learned From My Audience Feedback:

After reviewing all my audience feedback I decided to categorize what I had learnt.

Editing:
I have learnt that the way I edited our Music Video worked well because firstly unlike most pop music videos the song was very slow, this meant that I couldn't have lots of cuts every other second. This is why it was important to cut to different scenes on the beat.

The response to the editing of the Doppelgänger was very positive. I learnt that using effects in a music video is a convention, and if used well it can create a visual impact in the minds of the consumer, even making them want to stick with the artist and purchase my artists music.

Mise En Scene:
Through my audience feedback I've learnt that I used the Mise en scene, costume, artist make-up & artist look to a great effect. Many people commented on how the music video looked  very artistic and scenic, and this was an intentional style aspect we implemented into our music video.

I've also learnt that have appropriate mise end scene, with everything being seen on the screen serving a particular purpose is a good way to project a certain image for and artist, in our music video it was the idea of Talia being in the shots alone, with noone thus conveying the feeling of loneliness.

How Well My Music Video & Ancillary Products Link:
This is one of the most successful aspects of my work. I myself felt that there were clear links between my music video and ancillary works. One of the most clear links was that of using both the doppelgänger effect in the Album Cover of the Digipak and also in the Music Video. The audience feedback told me that this direct link was very good because it creates a strong artist image and also illustrates the name of the album 'Myself & I'.

I've learnt that by having a strong visual link between my two products allows the audience and consumer of the music to get a better picture of an up and coming artist. Focussing on her face and music to sell her music aims to not use her sexuality to increase sales.

I have also learnt that it is important to carry visual motifs throughout a artists Song, Digipak & Music Video for example my artist has a recurring theme of looking at herself and feeling lonely, having no one but herself and her music. This is important as it may resonate with some consumers, creating a fan base for the artist to hopefully keep throughout  various numbers of albums.

How I Would Change My Products in Relation To Audience Feedback:
One thing that some of my feedback givers thought could have been done better was the use of locations and setting. They felt that they all looked very similar and wanted to see a greater diversity in the locations that we shot. I would have changed some of the shots to a different location in light of this feedback, for example I would have like to do a night time shot.

Some members from my own group along with my media teacher Annabel suggested that in some close up shots the artist doesn't appear to be wearing as much make up as she does in other shots, and this doesn't add a level of consistency, so in hindsight this is something else i would have corrected.
