Q4: What have you learned from your audience feedback?
These are the audience reactions to when our music video came up in the cinema.
These are my audience reactions for my music video
These are the audience feedback for my ancillary work
What I learned!
I have learned that generally my ancillary work and music video are liked by a lot of people, which i am very proud of. From the audience feedback i have come to find out that i should have been a bit more creative when it came to making the digipak as it is a bit simple, i could have added s different pattern/design on the CD panel or something like that just to give it something different. I've also learned that perhaps my advert picture could have been my front cover for the CD as it would have worked just as well, but the reason why i didn't make it my front cover was because i wanted Talia's audience to see different sides to her personality and i believe that each picture that i used managed to do so.
Another thing that i learned, in regards to my music video was that all of our edits and costume designs worked extremely well, its just that perhaps our artist could have worked better with the song as in showed slightly more emotion in some areas, so we as a team could have directed her a bit better. I've also learned that our video could have had other people in it, we thought that for our idea to come across, there needed to be only the artist in it as that would be the only way we could show that she is the centre of attention. I now realise that we could have had as man people as we liked in the video, just as long as we knew how to make Talia stand out by using camera. editing and misce en scene.
Now all of our blogging work has come to an end and I am going away gaining a lot more information about music videos and digipaks. It has been a very good experience and i am proud that we have come so far and FINALLY finished blogging!!
Bye, Bye

Q2: how effective is the combination of your main product (video)and ancillary texts(digipak and advertisement)
I think overall, our target audience will be pleased with the whole combination. The reason being Is because I feel as if we done a good job in showing the visual links between the music video and ancillary. I believe that the images that I used on my ancillary products are very bold and eye catching. I also believe that it is very controversial as it reflects and pictures the whole theme itself. Our target audience is aimed at the more young teenage based audiences. Reason being is because the music video illustrates heartbreak, loneliness and isolation. These are all qualities that most teenagers go through. So I strongly believe that the ancillary reflects all the qualities which make it very successful in trying to attract our target audience.
The obvious clear link between the advert and Digipac is the picture , i decided to use the same picture as i thought that picture was effective in a sense it reflected the musicvideo it self, it represented heartbreak through the heart placed on her lips.In addition the texts used are the same , i wanted the same text in my ancillary so it keeps constant throughout the process aswell as that i wanted the audience to familiarise with her lego which is represented through her name.

EVALUATION: QUESTION 4 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Feedback for Music Video and Ancillary Products
The feed back has made it clear that although the music video looks up to scratch and it clearly states what genre its a part of, the criticism was mainly about the lack of make up on the artist that was clearly visible in some of the close ups. After getting this feed back it was also brought to my attention that both my ancillary products ( digipak and advert) and the music video worked effectively together due to the clear visuals of the artist's face which I was striving to get in order to improve the chances of the viewer/consumer recognising both the products and the artist.
Another thing I learnt was that the mise en scene was very successful in the music video as the audience was able to engage with the artist physically and emotionally as the theme and tone was very clear but also the artist's image made her seem relaxed and normal which I think worked to our advantage because the viewer was able to engage with the artist on another level. We made it clear to the audience that the artist wasn't all about the fame and glamour as she wasn't dressed glamorously in all the shots/base tracks we wanted the audience to like the artist because she seems normal and easy to relate to and not as some obnoxious, money hungry, attention seeker. I believe that Talia performed very well and that her image/costumes suited her perfectly.
Taking everything into consideration I think this project was by far the hardest but engaging. There were a few minor hiccups (Jade forgot the camera was in her pocket and we almost went from central street to Barbican in search of it and faulty tripods) but we got through it with dedication and team work. I now have a lot more knowledge about the music industry as a whole and the synergy between media and marketing. Its been very interesting and I've had a lot of fun but the best thing of all....
NO MORE BLOGGING!!!!
Thank You
Saydul =)
EVALUATION: QUESTION 2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
As you can see from the images below Talia is wearing the same costume but I have edited the image in the advertisement to suit the theme of the advertisement and ancillary texts overall. I did this to create a link between the music video and the advertisement so consumers who have seen the music video can identify the artist in the advertisement which will make it easier for them to identify her media product (album).

My Advert |
I also used the same concept whilst creating the inside panels of my digipak but I have also used the back ground from one of the locations from the music video to create a stronger link between the two products.
Same costume from screenshot and background is the same (apart from colour changes) |

As you can see the costume in both my digipak and the music video is the same. This enables the audience to establish a clear visible link across the products.
INFLUENCES:
As you can see I chose to use a bold image of Talia to make the front cover of the album more memorable and I got this idea from other existing digipaks.
Here is one:
As you can see this digipak is also in black and white but it still looks bold due to the tone and different shades of grey on white and black. the dominating aspect is image of the artist followed by the name of the artist and then the name of the album.

EVALUATION : In What ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Andrew Goodwin explains how the traditional narrative techniques do not apply to pop videos, mainly because pop videos take a different approach, such as a lot of repetition; this is done mainly to help the audience get familiar with the song and its beats. This was one convention that we defiantly approached, however Mulveys theory that in today’s society allot of music videos, women are portrayed as sexual objects. However in our music video we challenged that convention and represented our artist in a more sensible way. Carole vernallis study on the way camera work and editing works, she observed that edits are more frequent in music videos then films, and how the edits in music videos come out much more successfully as it connects closely with the beats of the song which stand out as disjuncture. This is one convention that is represented in our music video we defiantly edited to the beat and this helped keep the music video interesting.
Q4 EVALUATION : What Have You Learned From Your Audience Feeback?
The Audience Reaction To My Music Video, And How It Linked With My Ancillary Product:
The Pros:
- The Performance of the artist was praised universally
- The Lip-sync was extremely well done, many couldn't tell it it was lip-synced
- The costume suited the artists genre and also the song
- Mise En Scene worked well as everything there for a reason
- Video was cut to the beat of the song
- The Music Video linked with my Ancillary Products because the Mise En Scene used in both were the same
- The Doppelgänger effect worked really well, bit in the Music Video and Ancillary Products
The Cons:
- Diversity needed in terms of location
- Some people wanted to see more close ups of the artist
- Some wanted more variation in shot types for example, long shots
What I Have Learned From My Audience Feedback:
After reviewing all my audience feedback I decided to categorize what I had learnt.
Editing:
I have learnt that the way I edited our Music Video worked well because firstly unlike most pop music videos the song was very slow, this meant that I couldn't have lots of cuts every other second. This is why it was important to cut to different scenes on the beat.
The response to the editing of the Doppelgänger was very positive. I learnt that using effects in a music video is a convention, and if used well it can create a visual impact in the minds of the consumer, even making them want to stick with the artist and purchase my artists music.
Mise En Scene:
Through my audience feedback I've learnt that I used the Mise en scene, costume, artist make-up & artist look to a great effect. Many people commented on how the music video looked very artistic and scenic, and this was an intentional style aspect we implemented into our music video.
I've also learnt that have appropriate mise end scene, with everything being seen on the screen serving a particular purpose is a good way to project a certain image for and artist, in our music video it was the idea of Talia being in the shots alone, with noone thus conveying the feeling of loneliness.
How Well My Music Video & Ancillary Products Link:
This is one of the most successful aspects of my work. I myself felt that there were clear links between my music video and ancillary works. One of the most clear links was that of using both the doppelgänger effect in the Album Cover of the Digipak and also in the Music Video. The audience feedback told me that this direct link was very good because it creates a strong artist image and also illustrates the name of the album 'Myself & I'.
I've learnt that by having a strong visual link between my two products allows the audience and consumer of the music to get a better picture of an up and coming artist. Focussing on her face and music to sell her music aims to not use her sexuality to increase sales.
I have also learnt that it is important to carry visual motifs throughout a artists Song, Digipak & Music Video for example my artist has a recurring theme of looking at herself and feeling lonely, having no one but herself and her music. This is important as it may resonate with some consumers, creating a fan base for the artist to hopefully keep throughout various numbers of albums.
How I Would Change My Products in Relation To Audience Feedback:
One thing that some of my feedback givers thought could have been done better was the use of locations and setting. They felt that they all looked very similar and wanted to see a greater diversity in the locations that we shot. I would have changed some of the shots to a different location in light of this feedback, for example I would have like to do a night time shot.
Some members from my own group along with my media teacher Annabel suggested that in some close up shots the artist doesn't appear to be wearing as much make up as she does in other shots, and this doesn't add a level of consistency, so in hindsight this is something else i would have corrected.

Q2. How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)?
I used the same person in the video, on the digipak and on the advert. We have used the same shot types throughout the video and ancillary work so its easy to recognise the who the artist is. Its links back to Goodin's theory as our artist is the main focus and there are repeated shots such as the two shot of Talia.
At 30 seconds |
Repeated at 3 minutes |
I also took some pictures in the same location as the video because i wanted the audience to see a clear visual link between my digipak and music video. The two pictures below are from different parts of the video, and both are two different angles but our artist is wearing the same outfit.
These two pictures were taken in the same location and they are both featured in my digipak. Behind the picture on the right is the tiled floor what i used for the background of my back panel which is on the right.
Here is a video of me explaining in more detail what the links between my ancillary work and music video are. Even though in this video i have focused on theme which isn't exactly the question, i think that it is relevant for the one song on our album as in this video, this is what I'm talking about.
