Do's & Dont's When Thinking About The Music Video : RESEARCH

In class we discussed about how past students have produced good quality music videos and how some have produced very poor videos. We discussed things that should be done and things that should be avoided.

Do’s:
Make sure that lighting is done extremely well, to help with continuity, because we should have someone very bright in one shot and the next you can’t see them.

Have some contingency time before the filming to plan thoroughly and after in case we need to go back and re shoot some scenes.

Make sure editing is always in our mind while filming for example some editing styles my need specific shots that we need to shoot.

We also need to ensure that Mise en scene is used effectively and links with the theme and look of the video.

Don’ts:
We discussed how using flashbacks for narratives can become cringe worthy, and ruin the flow and look of a music video, also it has been used so much it’s not unique and nothing special or technical about it.

Going back to good use of Mise en scene, we shouldn’t wear normal clothes we’d wear to college as it shows a lack of planning and technical ability.

Don’t take dark lighted shots as they will come up even darker on the editing screen.
Don’t mime the song when shooting but actually sing the song, it makes it easier and also makes it look more natural.
