Analysis Of Three Music Videos That Influence Our Final Planning Decisions : PLANNING

One idea that my group and I hope to implement in our music group is having the verse sections to be in black and white, I got this idea from watching ‘Amy Winehouse – Back To Black

We will use the black and white effect only for the verses of the song, because this is where a dull, bleak look is relevant, that is why we look to this video for inspiration as it is in black and white because the song is about loneliness and death. The Amy Winehouse video successfully creates a sad but yet artistic look and feel and that is something I hope we can emulate.

Another music video that gave us some ideas was ‘Rihanna – Only Girl In The World. There is one scene specifically where Rihanna is laying on the grass surrounded by flowers, we felt that this could be an effective shot to use in one of our chorus sections where the music is more upbeat and where our scene will be in colour. Also this shot could allow us to be more experimental with the camera, for example we could spin the camera as we get closer to the artists face.

James Blunts ‘You’re Beautiful’ music video inspired me to have a more artistic approach to making the video. In this video the camera is still for the whole video and only zooms in and out and tilts up and down. There are no fast cuts and frantic editing, it really is simplistic but very effective, and out of all the videos I have seen, this is the one that really inspires me.
