Analysis Of Original Music Video & How Ours Will Differ : PLANNING

This is the original video to ‘Who’d Have Known’:

In this music video Lily Allen essentially stalks and then kidnaps ‘Elton John’, that is the narrative of the video and this is a amplification of the lyrics to give us a deeper meaning. The video also has the artist Lily Allen interacting with other characters and this is one very important distinction between the original and how we will do our own video. Listening to the lyrics we felt that this is a very lonely person and so we will amplify this idea by having no one but our performer in the video.

In the original there is only about 2 to 3 consistent base tracks meaning that they are often seen in the video and for ours we will be using more base tracks, we decided to do this because firstly it is different from the original and secondly for some parts of the video we wants to use fast cuts between different locations and having a good number of base tracks would allow us to do that.

Another important difference between the original and ours is that of structure. The original video has many shots where the camera is stationary and rigid with the artist moving rather than the camera. In our film we will try and keep that to a minimum because we want the camera movements to be a continuation of the rhythm of the song, mainly because it would visually flow and look better. I also came up with the idea that some sections of our video should be in black and white rather than all colour like the original. My thinking behind this idea is that the verses of the song seem sad and not very vibrant, and we could reflect this by using black and white before switching back to colour in the chorus where the music, beat and lyrics are more uplifting.
